Welcome to my webpage. Here you will find some personal data, information about my research and my scientific publications. In case you have further inquiries, do not hesitate to contact me.
My name, Oriol, is pronounced /u.ɾiˈɔɫ/ or /o.ɾiˈɔɫ/. It derives from
the Latin words aureolus/aureus (golden).
That is why I share my name with this
yellow bird.
Currently I am working as a postdoctoral researcher at the
Bruno Kessler Foundation, in Trento, Italy. In short, this is the
journey that has taken me here:
I was born and grew up in Barcelona. I decided to study Physics at the
University of Barcelona.
After my bachelor, I moved to Mallorca to pursue a master degree on
Physics of Complex Systems at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and
Complex Systems (IFISC).
I continued the research of my master thesis as a PhD student, at IFISC
as well. Along this period, I worked under the supervision of
Dr. José J. Ramasco
and Prof. Maxi San Miguel
on topics related to the dynamics and the collective phenomena of social
and socio-technical systems. I defended my PhD thesis in September 2020,
but since November 2018 I am actively involved in the Complex Multilayer
Networks (CoMuNe) Lab, led
by Prof. Manlio De Domenico.
My scientific interests, and the research that I conduct, orbit around
Complex Systems and Network Science.
In my research I use analytical and computational techniques
borrowed from statistical physics and stochastic processes. To bring
theory and applications together, I integrate these approaches with
the analysis of large data sets, frequently coming from sociol-technical
systems, but not only. A summarized list of interests comprises:
Besides this list, I have a bent on innovative interdisciplinary problems. Whenever possible, I try to orientate my research on those directions.

We are currently editing with Manlio De Domenico a Theme Issue in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A.
It will include 20 contributions from world-leading experts on the concept of Emergence, the hallmark of complexity science, from a modern and interdisciplinary viewpoint.
The publication is scheduled for next autumn, so stay tuned!
